Mom & Pop shops can be the best!! What kinds of those shops do you frequent and what do they sell? Are they a coffee shop, cafe/deli, pet store, etc...?
I love mom & pop restaurants, they tend to be a little more expensive, but they're usually so much better than chains. If I can find local stores for just about anything I'll give them a go. The only area that's hard is groceries, because...prices...but I still try when I can!

Oh, I agree with you!!
We also have Amish shops and they aren't always very cheap. My husband saw that they had homemade donuts when we went for ice cream last weekend and I told him maybe next time. I'd love to taste those but don't want the calories. The price is about the same for their donuts as the grocery store.
